Black Gram also known as Black Matpe or Black lentil (Vigna mungo), originated in the Indian subcontinent, and then spread throughout other Asian countries including Pakistan, Myanmar and parts of Southern Asia. Now they are also grown in Argentina where Andes Harvest grows Black Gram to the strictest export markets and requirements.
Black Gram beans are low in calories and fats, rich in nutrients such as protein, and essential minerals including iron, vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. Iron is a great source of energy for women during pregnancy and menstruation; it is also a great tool for fighting Anemia. It’s Fiber, magnesium, and potassium also provides a good mix for heart health. Fiber plays a big role in regulating the absorption of nutrients thereby balancing the levels of glucose and insulin in the blood, thus good for preventing diabetes.
Black Gram beans are widely used and are probably one of the main beans used in Asian cuisine. They can be eaten in sweet or savory combinations in a very wide range of applications such as breads, soups, stews, curries, pastes, and many other side dishes.
